I've noticed an increasing number of 'real people' I know, especially Worldcon fans, who communicate using LiveJournal. I've had an active LJ account for five years, but I've done nothing to encourage these people to friend me there, since when I say "fandom" on that Journal, I'm probably referring to people who read and write explicit slash fanfiction about Remus Lupin and Severus Snape!
I've been attending and working on Science Fiction Conventions (Worldcons in particular) since 1976, and was the Vice-Chairman of MagiCon and ChiCon 2000. I very seldom miss Worldcons, SMOFcons, or Loscons, and am often also seen at Norwescons and Westercons. I ran the Convention Office for the 2008 (Denvention 3)and 2009 (Anticipation) Worldcons, and will be doing the same for Renovation, the 2011 Worldcon in Reno. In 2012 I will be running the Information Desk at the Seattle Westercon.
Politically I guess you could call me a Progressive Liberal. I put quite a bit of volunteer work and more money than I could really afford into the campaign to elect Barack Obama. In particular, I'm an avid supporter of GLBT rights, including the right of two people to marry regardless of their genders or sexual orientations. I have strongly opposed the war in Iraq from the very beginning.
I don't know how much I will post on this Journal. Opening this account is a spur-of-the-moment decision that I made because there are a bunch of sf fans whose Journals I would like to read.
